When people discover that sardines are gross they stop buying them, and the island's sardine cannery closes because of the drop in demand. This scene illustrates a change in tastes and preferences (which causes a decrease -- or leftward shift in demand). The drop in demand leads to lower prices and fewer sales. In addition, since the demand for labor is derived from the demand for sardines, suddenly the entire town is without a job. Show this scene when discussing the factors that shift the demand curve.
